A journalist writing for the Northern Echo has cast fresh doubts over the futures of Newcastle United duo Nabil Bentaleb and Valentino Lazaro, while a deal to sign Danny Rose on a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur apparently looks more likely.
Bentaleb and Lazaro still face uncertain futures at the Tyneside club as they are both on loan from FC Schalke 04 and Inter Milan respectively.
If Newcastle could only keep one, who should they keep?
The journalist claims that Antonio Conte’s team are likely to demand a transfer fee of around €20 million for Lazaro, which equates to around £17.9 million, whereas Schalke have allegedly indicated that they would be willing to sell the former Spurs man Bentaleb permanently in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, both are still yet to convince Newcastle that they would be worth signing.
The latter would arguably be competing with Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Sean Longstaff to play in the centre of midfield in the North East if he is to stay beyond the 2019/20 season, but some of his stats compared to the others so far in the Premier League may cause Bruce to think twice about letting him go.
The 25-year old has averaged the most interceptions and has the highest pass success rate, all be it from just eight games, according to Whoscored.
Likewise, the Magpies may want to think about keeping Lazaro if they can afford his asking price. The right-back has averaged more shots, key passes and dribbles than DeAndre Yedlin, Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo so far in the this top flight campaign, as per the website.
Nevertheless, the Toon may have to make their final decision soon on the pair before they return to their respective parent clubs at the end of this term.
