However, as per the outlet, the Tyneside club may face competition from fellow Premier League rivals in Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur as well as Serie A club AS Roma to get the signature of the SSC Napoli ace over the dotted line.
Gennaro Gattuso’s team may well lose the Polish international for free next year, but they believe that is unlikely, with Roma seemingly the strongest side in the race, since they are in advanced talks with Napoli and could now find an agreement with Milik.
However, the 26-year old is apparently against this idea, as the Magpies have now asked for information with regards to his availability.
Napoli have allegedly dropped their asking price to €20 million plus bonuses, which is the equivalent of around £18.4 million.
Indeed, Milik could be quite the coup for Steve Bruce’s team, as he scored more goals and averaged more shots and had a higher pass success percentage than Andy Carroll, Joelinton and even new big-money signing Callum Wilson in their respective domestic leagues in the 2019/20 term (via Whoscored).
Does Milik start for Newcastle?
The striker has also scored a relatively impressive 114 goals in 272 games in his club career so far, and also managed to net 14 times in 51 matches for Poland at senior international level (per Transfermarkt).
However, the Toon may need to act fast if they are to beat off their competition for Milik before the market shuts.
