Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Matthew Bondswell on their official website.

As per nufc.co.uk, the left-back, who left RB Leipzig back in February, will initially be part of the under-23 squad with Chris Hogg and Peter Ramage.

Bondswell a good signing by Newcastle

At just 18 years of age, Bondswell is certainly a player for the future, and it could turn out to be a very good signing by the Tyneside club given that they have managed to secure his signature with no transfer fee involved whatsoever.

Stefan Krause, who is the RB Leipzig reporter for German news outlet Sport Bild, has told Chronicle Live that the former Nottingham Forest starlet is ‘highly-rated’. Also, the Bundesliga website has likened his playing style to that of Bayern Munich star and UEFA Champions League winner David Alaba, claiming that he has a ‘God-given athleticism’, a ‘cultured left foot’ and a ‘malleability’ which has allowed him to play in a variety of different positions in the team.

His added versatility could well work in his favour for the future, and age is certainly on his side at the moment.

Nonetheless, the England under-18 international will be looking to impress with the under-23s, with the overall aim of breaking into the first team squad at the Tyneside club under Steve Bruce.
