Newcastle United could take advantage of West Ham’s move for Brentford forward Said Benrahma reportedly stalling, with the Magpies amongst the sides also interested in the attacker.
The Magpies have been named as one of the Premier League clubs who are interested in making a potential move for Benrahma before the domestic transfer window closes. Newcastle, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Fulham are all believed to be in the race for the 25-year-old, as per the Daily Star.
West Ham stalling could benefit Magpies
It is believed that West Ham had agreed a deal with Brentford worth £17 million, with another £8 million in potential add-ons included. However, that the deal is now stalling as the Hammers look set to focus their full attention on securing a move for Bournemouth’s Josh King instead.
Benrahma is also thought to have fallen out with the Bees’ hierarchy, as per The Mirror.
The stalling move between Benrahma and West Ham could now potentially open the door for both Crystal Palace and Newcastle to try and pursue a move for the forward. Although, it appears that Palace are better placed at this stage to make the move than the Magpies, as per London Football News.
However, it has also been reported that West Ham have not yet given up on signing Benrahma, with the Hammers remaining in talks with the 25-year-old over a move but personal terms have yet to be agreed between the two parties, as per Sky Sports.
Said Benrahma arrival looks unlikely but would be quality addition
Whilst it does look unlikely that the Magpies will be able to secure a move for Benrahma, were they to take advantage of the situation with West Ham, the player would be a very good addition for Newcastle. The forward had an exceptional campaign last term, hitting 17 goals and registering eight assists, as per Sofascore.
However, it is not just his ability in the final third that makes Benrahma a quality potential addition, but also his ability to commit defenders and retain possession, with the forward having averaged 3.1 successful dribbles and maintained a 78% passing accuracy in the Championship last season (via Sofascore).
