Newcastle United are facing competition from both Crystal Palace and Sheffield United to bring Huddersfield Town star Lewis O’Brien to St. James’ Park.
As per Football Insider, the three Premier League clubs have set their sights on the dynamic star with a transfer this month very much possible.
Should Newcastle sign O'Brien?
A recruitment source has told the news outlet that the Terriers are willing to cash in on the central midfield player for the right price, which could give the Toon Army the opportunity to pounce on his signature.
O’Brien would be a good signing for Newcastle
O’Brien has certainly been a beaming light in the EFL Championship so far in the 2020/21 term, winning no fewer than 5.2 of his duels a game while also averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.1 clearances, 1.1 successful dribbles and one key pass per match (Sofascore).
The fact that he gets stuck into so many duels and is a threat both in an attacking and defending sense shows just how dynamic he is, and the Magpies could do with someone like him in the middle of the park to bring some more energy and legs into the heart of a midfield often left relying on Jeff Hendrick, who fans have lambasted regularly.
How much O’Brien would cost has not been disclosed as of yet, but the 22 year-old would certainly add a spark in Steve Bruce’s team.
