Newcastle United are reportedly in danger of losing Freddie Woodman to Arsenal, according to Kaya Kaynak.
Speaking in an interview with Wales Online, the football.london writer was asked about the Gunners’ interest in the 23-year-old, to which he said ‘he’s on the shortlist’.
Will Woodman ever make it at Newcastle?
Kaynak also added that Mikel Arteta’s team are in the hunt for a goalkeeper to be a sufficient understudy to Bernd Leno following some poor displays from Alex Runarsson and the letting go of Matt Macey to Hibernian, with an English ‘keeper preferable to help fill the quota required for their 25-man Premier League squad.
Woodman fits that mould, and is also able to play out with his feet, with his very impressive performances so far in the 2020/21 term an added bonus.
Woodman has been impressive for Swansea
Woodman has been impressive so far this season on loan with the Swans, keeping no fewer than 15 clean sheets and conceding a mere 14 goals in 25 games in total in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
However, with Karl Darlow and Martin Dubravka at the St. James’ Park faithful, it may be difficult for him to break into the first team under Steve Bruce upon his return from his loan spell, and so it may be a wise idea for the Tyneside club to cash in on the £6.3m-valued star while he is on red hot form.
