As per the outlet, the Tyneside club are apparently “at the front” of the “fans” who are “chasing” his signature in the summer transfer window.
Would Ghoulam start for Newcastle?
Ghoulam allegedly turned down the opportunity to move to the North East on loan in in the January window, but he wanted to fight for his spot under Gennaro Gattuso.
However, he was limited to just nine games in the Serie A in the 2019/20 season, making one assist (via Transfermarkt).
Thus, it seems as if Ghoulam could do with a move away in order to get some more matches under his belt, and St. James’ Park may well be his next destination.
The 29-year old certainly has pedigree, having won numerous domestic trophies with Napoli as he was also named the Algerian footballer of the year in 2017, beating the likes of Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez to that title.
The left-back could well fill the void left by Danny Rose, who has returned to Tottenham Hotspur following his loan spell, and Jetro Willems, who has rejoined German team Eintracht Frankfurt.
However, Steve Bruce will surely have to act fast before any other clubs come sniffing.
Geordies, would Ghoulam be a good signing? Comment below!
