Newcastle United are set to lose out on Weston McKennie as Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his official Twitter page that there is an agreement to be completed between FC Schalke 04 and Juventus for his signature in the summer transfer window.
As per the football journalist, Andrea Pirlo’s team are close to signing McKennie on an initial loan deal that would cost them €3 million with an option to buy of €18 million, adding uo to a total package of €21 million, which is the equivalent of around £18.8 million.

Indeed, Steve Bruce’s side as well as fellow Premier League rivals Southampton were reportedly interested in signing the central midfield player alongside Everton man Tom Davies, Norwich City star Todd Cantwell and AS Roma striker Patrik Schick in what would have been a quadruple transfer swoop.
McKennie could have been a shrewd addition at St. James’ Park, as he can play in a variety of different roles on the pitch, and is also an established international player with the United States of America, according to Transfermarkt.
Comparing the stats of the 21-year old in the 2019/20 Bundesliga season to the likes of Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Sean Longstaff in the top flight in the last term, McKennie averaged the most interceptions, blocks and dribbles per league game, while also achieving the highest pass accuracy (via Whoscored).
Would McKennie start for Newcastle?
However, it looks as if the Magpies are set to lose out on McKennie in what will be a bit of a blow to the Toon, who will now have to look for other targets.
