Philippe Coutinho has reportedly been offered to both Newcastle United and Arsenal in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Goal.
As per the outlet, the attacking midfield player will not be at FC Barcelona for the next season as the Catalan giants are looking to offload him.
Would you be happy to sign Coutinho regardless of the price?
Indeed, only clubs from the Premier League are said to be able to put in a substantial offer both in terms of a transfer fee and how much they would also be willing to pay Coutinho in wages.
The teams that have consequently been offered his services are Mikel Arteta’s Gunners and Steve Bruce’s Magpies, pending the proposed takeover of the Tyneside club by Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabian-led group.
Coutinho may be a marquee signing for the Magpies based on his previous exploits in England with Liverpool. The 28-year old scored a rather impressive 54 goals and made 45 assists in 201 games in all competitions across six consecutive seasons for the Anfield outfit (via Transfermarkt).
Comparing his stats in the Bundesliga in the 2019/20 campaign to those of attackers Allan Saint-Maximin, Christian Atsu and Miguel Almiron in the Premier League, the Brazilian international has scored the most goals and made the most assists, while also averaging more shots, passes, long and through balls per game (per Whoscored).
His superior abilities both in possession and his eye for a goal and assist may make Coutinho a valuable asset to have for the Toon if they can get a deal over the line.
