Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has confirmed in his pre-match press conference (via Chris Waugh) that Fabian Schar has a future at the Tyneside club despite previous reports that his future is uncertain amid transfer interest from clubs both in France and Spain.
Bruce on Fabian Schar's future: "He certainly has (a future here). You can never stop speculation at Newcastle. He is still covering from a shoulder operation, has an important part to play for us & is at least a month away from being right." #NUFC

Schar’s current contract at St. James’ Park is up at the end of the new 2020/21 season which means that he could possibly leave on a free transfer if he does not get offered a new deal in the North East.
However, Bruce has confirmed that he has a future at the Magpies and perhaps a new contract offer is on the way.
Schar was a prominent figure for Bruce’s side in the Premier League in the 2019/20 term, and even managed to average three times as many tackles per match in the top flight (1.8) than his teammate and captain Jamaal Lascelles (0.6), according to Whoscored.
Should Schar be a regular for Newcastle?
Comparing some of his other stats in the top flight in the last campaign to fellow central defenders Lascelles, Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez, Schar averaged the most tackles, interceptions, shots, key passes, dribbles an long balls per game, as per the website.
Indeed, the £11.7 million-valued ace arguably still has a lot to offer the Toon, and so Bruce is wise to say that he has a future at NUFC for now.
The Swiss international will be looking to cement his place in the team in the next season, and thus prove to Bruce that he should give the 28-year old a new deal.
Geordies, would you give Schar a new deal? Comment below!
