Newcastle United have identified one position where they feel they still need to strengthen before the summer transfer window shuts.
According to Sky Sports’ The Transfer Show, the Tyneside club are still looking to bring in a central defender on loan before the market closes after missing out on the loan signing of Arsenal ace Rob Holding.
Where will Newcastle finish in the Premier League?

The 24-year old now appears to be fighting for his place under Mikel Arteta, meaning that Steve Bruce will now have to pursue other targets.
The 59-year-old never really had an established partnership at centre-back in the Premier League in 2019/20, with Ciaran Clark, Fabian Schar, Federico Fernandez and Jamaal Lascelles all playing at least 14 games each in the top flight, as per Whoscored.
Whether the loan signing would slot straight into the starting XI or just be a squad player under Bruce is another question, but one would think that the manager will need to decide who the regular partner alongside captain Lascelles is going to be for the 2020/21 season.
Indeed, Holding could have been that man, having averaged more passes per match with a higher success rate than Schar, Fernandez and Lascelles in the Premier League last term, suggesting that he is more composed on the ball and is comfortable in playing out from the back if and when needed.
Nonetheless, it now looks as if signing a new centre-half on loan is a priority at St James’ Park, and so the Magpies will have to act fast in order to get one into the club before the 5 October deadline.
