Newcastle United are eyeing a possible loan swoop for Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher while also contemplating taking Harry Wilson from Liverpool for the new 2020/21 season, according to the Northern Echo.
As per the outlet, both players are regarded as realistic transfer targets as the Tyneside club plan for a summer window without the proposed takeover by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) group.
Gallagher spent the last campaign on loan at both Charlton and Swansea in the Championship, as he managed a combined six goals and 11 assists in 47 games (via Transfermarkt).
The central midfielder was lauded by Addicks manager Lee Bowyer while at The Valley, as the former Magpies man described him as an “all-round midfielder” with an “unreal” work-rate (per BBC).
Indeed, Bowyer played in a total of 96 matches at St. James’ Park across three consecutive terms, netting 10 times and providing a further four assists (as per Transfermarkt), so perhaps it would be encouraging to members of the Toon Army that he was so full of praise for Gallagher.
The Englishman already has a glittering CV, having won the Under-17 World Cup with England and been part of the Blues squad that triumphed in the UEFA Europa League last year, beating London rivals Arsenal 4-1 in the final in Baku.
At just 20 years of age as well, the young midfielder arguably still has a lot of potential to develop much further as a footballer of top-flight quality.
Would Gallagher improve the Newcastle midfield?
Perhaps it is now time for Gallagher to make the step up to the Premier League and Steve Bruce could well give that opportunity to him if Newcastle can agree a deal with Chelsea.
Geordies, would Gallagher be a good signing for Newcastle? Comment below with your views!
