# Newcastle United: Woodman linked with Arsenal

**Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has been linked with a move to Premier League giants Arsenal.**

[It has been reported](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/news/arsenal-transfers-freddie-woodman-goalkeeper-19639767) that Woodman is on the shortlist for the Gunners and while it is unknown whether the move can happen in January, it looks like some interest is certainly there.

### Arsenal have been tracking Woodman

[Football.London have stated](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/news/arsenal-transfers-freddie-woodman-goalkeeper-19639767) that Woodman is currently on Arsenal’s list of targets and they see him as one of the options to solve their goalkeeping issues. While the report casts doubts about whether a potential move can happen this month or not, it says that the Gunners have been tracking him since the end of the 2019/20 campaign, when he was on loan at Swansea City.

[The report also mentions](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/news/arsenal-transfers-freddie-woodman-goalkeeper-19639767) a key detail about Woodman’s situation, stating that the goalkeeper’s father is the Head of under-23s Goalkeeping at Arsenal and that may help a potential move to the Emirates. Woodman is said to fit the sort of profile that Mikel Arteta wants in a goalkeeper and he will count towards Arsenal’s homegrown quota too.

Swansea boss Steve Cooper [had big praise for Woodman last year](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/freddie-woodman-produces-yet-more-17842181) and said: “We love Freddie. He’s been brilliant for us and has shown his true worth this season, particularly this week.”

### Newcastle should look for Woodman sale

Whilst Woodman has been [on loan at Swansea](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/freddie-woodman/transfers/spieler/226049) this season, he has [been a regular for the Swans](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/freddie-woodman/leistungsdaten/spieler/226049) in the Championship and Newcastle already have [three goalkeepers in their current first-team set up](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/kadernachposition/verein/762) – Martin Dubravka, Mark Gillespie and Karl Darlow.

Darlow [has been the club’s highest-performing player](https://whoscored.com/Teams/23/Show/England-Newcastle-United) in the season, while Dubravka [has returned to action](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-dubravka/leistungsdaten/spieler/74960) after an injury already. This shows that it could be tough for Woodman to make an impact in the club’s first-team and because of that, it may be best for the Magpies to sell the Englishman as it would help them raise some cash to potentially spend elsewhere.
