The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern have barely enjoyed a vintage campaign back in the Premier League as off the field issues continue to dog the club, though there has been some relative excitement of late.
Indeed, the January signing on loan of Brazilian winger Kenedy has delighted our punters clad in black and white and the Chelsea-owned youngster has looked impressive during each of his two games thus far. Amid a squad not many would consider the most exciting the Toon have ever had, the 21-year-old is proving very popular indeed.
With that in mind, a report from the Chronicle revealing Rafa Benitez’s message to the samba star has proven really rather interesting amongst our resident Geordies. Despite his strong start to life with the Magpies, the Spaniard is understood to have told him to keep training hard in a bid to regain his match fitness.
Though he’s looked good in his games thus far, Kenedy has been subbed off in the second-half after struggling for game time with Chelsea and Benitez is believed to have encouraged him at the club’s Benton base to try and coax more consistency from the January arrival.
If Kenedy can get fully fit and continue to impress on a regular basis, Newcastle have a great chance of staying up. Outside of Wilfred Zaha, there aren’t many players in that bottom tier of teams able to change games in a heartbeat and he’s certainly one of them.
