# Newcastle United: Magpies set to reward Nick Pope with bumper new deal

**[Newcastle United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/) are reportedly set to reward Nick Pope with a new contract worth £100,000-per-week.**

### The Lowdown: Top signing

Hailed as an ‘[exceptional](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/12638849/nick-pope-newcastle-sign-england-goalkeeper-from-burnley-in-10m-deal)‘ goalkeeper by [Eddie Howe](https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/eddie-howe/&sa=D&source=editors&ust=1678114670632965&usg=AOvVaw3Ei-ot83kF_jPdzkVfY-it) upon arriving from Burnley in the summer, Pope has been a top signing for Newcastle.

The six-foot-three colossus boasts the most amount of clean sheets in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) so far this season with [12](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/clean_sheet?po=GOALKEEPER&se=489), and his team have conceded the fewest goals by far with [17](https://www.premierleague.com/tables).

### The Latest: New bumper contract…

As per [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21594889/newcastle-nick-pope-new-deal-wages/), the St. James’ Park outfit are set to reward Pope with a bumper new deal worth £100,000-per-week.

His basic salary at the moment is £60,000-per-week, but that is thought to increase with appearance money, clean sheet and win bonuses.

### The Verdict: Deserved

Pope’s new contract is well-deserved considering his form this season.

He has established himself as not only one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, but in Europe as well, ranking in the [top 20%](https://fbref.com/en/players/4b40d9ca/Nick-Pope) for a number of key metrics for shot-stoppers in Europe’s top five leagues.

Pope’s current £60,000-per-week wage does not reflect his importance in the squad, and a new £100,000-per-week contract would put him among Newcastle’s [highest](https://fbref.com/en/squads/b2b47a98/2022-2023/wages/Newcastle-United-Wage-Details) earners.

Thus, the Magpies should be looking to wrap this deal up as soon as they can, so that it does not become a distraction for the rest of the campaign.
