Club Brugge are said to be holding out for €12 million, which Villa have not yet met despite being the Zimbabwean’s most likely destination at this point.
What will likely have drawn Aston Villa’s attention to Nakamba the most is his form in last season’s Champions League, as he played every minute of the four games Club Brugge got a result from – including a 4-0 win against Monaco.
His tackling is cited as being very strong on WhoScored, while passing, concentration and ball interceptions are also strengths of his – all traits which Villa will surely be looking for in a holding midfielder.
However, there is an argument that his current attitude displayed in not turning up to training with Club Brugge could be off-putting.
One of the reasons that Jack Grealish is so loved by Villa fans is that despite the disappointment of a failed bid from Tottenham Hotspur, as reported by Football 365, he still gave his all to the club last season to help earn promotion, playing 34 times.
If Villa were to sign Nakamba, they would do so in the knowledge he could act in a similar way if another potential move came about in a few years.
Nevertheless, Nakamba would be a good signing for the Villans, as his attributes would allow the likes of Grealish and John McGinn to go forward with greater freedom.
And with Mile Jedinak and Glenn Whelan both having left the club, ultimately, Dean Smith could really do with the addition of another robust midfielder.
