The two other names on the list are Wilfried Zaha and Malcom of Crystal Palace and Barcelona respectively.
“They have enquired about Nicolas Pepe at Lille, which tells you the scale of ambition there because Lille have made it clear that they expect Pepe to achieve at least €80m [£72 million] of a transfer fee for them.”
Pepe started 37 Ligue 1 games for Lille last season, coming on as a substitute once, scoring 22 goals and assisting 11 times.
While there is a chance he won’t be able to replicate these numbers in the Premier League, they are seriously impressive and highlight why there are teams willing to pay €80 million for the Ivorian.
In addition to this, he played 1.8 key passes, made 2.7 dribbles and was fouled 2.8 times – which indicates how direct and threatening he can be with the ball at his feet.
It can’t be disputed that Pepe would walk into the Everton team with these numbers and he would likely be able to make a big impact, even if he didn’t quite match his statistics from 2018/19.
If Everton manage to pull off this deal it would be a massive coup, with their attempt to do so showing plenty of ambition.
It is difficult to imagine the Toffees will be able to pull this off, but if they do it will be an incredible move.
