Everton: Club interested in ambitious swoop for Ivan Rakitic

Everton are looking to make what would be a shock move for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

According to the Guardian, the Toffees are interested in making a move for the experienced Croatian as they look to add further quality to the squad.

Manager Marco Silva is looking to put together a squad capable of eventually challenging for the top four in the Premier League, and the addition of Rakitic, a player who has enjoyed masses of success with Barcelona, would no doubt be a huge boost to the club.

Rakitic was one of the stars of the show last summer as Croatia made it to the World Cup final, and the 31-year-old could well see a move to England as something he wants to make happen given he has spent his career on the continent.

The experienced former Sevilla man would bring an element of class to the midfield for Everton, with his passing stats being particularly impressive.

Rakitic averaged over 90% in terms of pass success rate last season, and also contributed five assists to the cause as he was once again a regular at the Nou Camp.

It is this sort of footballing ability in the middle of the park which will interest Marco Silva, who will be looking for someone to feed new striker Moise Kean the chances after the 19-year-old sealed a move to Goodison Park this weekend.

This would be an absolutely massive signing for the Toffees if they could pull it off.

If they can get Rakitic in the squad alongside the signing of Kean, then suddenly they look like a team who can really push on and chase the top four next year.

Rakitic has been superb for a number of seasons now, and despite being 31, he is still one of the top midfielders in the game.
