Leaving Newcastle was a blessing for this Watford man

The Watford fans in the Transfer Tavern have cause for concern regarding their defence this season.

The Hornets conceded a hatful of goals last season and Marco Silva is being urged to recruit more options for the back four.

One position Watford supporters are happy with is at right-back.

Following his move from Newcastle last summer, Daryl Janmaat performed superbly for the Hornets throughout the 2016/17 campaign.

The Dutchman was left agonised in 2016 after the Netherlands failed to reach the Euro’s. He was later dealt a double blow following Newcastle’s relegation to the Championship.

Watford came calling that summer and Janmaat hasn’t looked back.

The 26-year-old started 18 times for the Hornets last season, scored two and assisted one, but his hard work and defensive contributions instantly won over the Vicarage Road faithful.

Janmaat will now be aiming to maintain his good form and reestablish himself in the Dutch international side.

The right-back is yet to figure into Dick Advocaat’s plans ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Watford fans, we want to hear you! What are your thoughts of Janmaat? Let us know in the comments…
