Leeds United – Top Six?

The Leeds United fans here inside the Football Transfer Tavern are in an incredibly glum mood at present.

Thomas Christiansen’s side have lost seven out of their last nine Championship matches and are struggling to break out of this poor run of form.

At one stage earlier on in the season, the Whites sat top of the Championship table with manager Thomas Christiansen being hailed as the ‘messiah’ by most of the Leeds fans here in the Tavern.

However, it’s tough times for Christiansen at present and the club’s aspirations for a top six finish are looking fainter as every match passes at the moment.

At present, the bookmakers are reducing their odds on Leeds’ hopes of a top six finish, but they still have the potential to do it. As our landlord exclaims, it may be worth taking a cheeky punt on them in free bet.

It doesn’t get any easier for Leeds, they face off against in-form Middlesbrough at Elland Road on Sunday in their next league match, and then after that, they come up against top of the league Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The majority of Leeds fans by the jukebox here in the Tavern don’t think Christiansen will still be the Whites boss by Christmas, as the pressure continues to mount on the former Apoel Nicosia boss.

Can Leeds achieve a top six finish?

At the moment you’d have to say no.

There are too many good sides all competing for a coveted top six spot in the division, with Middlesbrough and Aston Villa two sides who finally look to be getting into their stride.

Meanwhile, the likes of Bristol City, Cardiff City and Sheffield United are all in and around the top six spots, having made fantastic starts to the season.

With Leeds, you get the impression that Christiansen still has not found his perfect starting eleven that he can consistently start week in, week out.

The Yorkshire outfit’s starting eleven often changes every week, with the back-line never seeming to stay the same.

Although, a large part of that has been down to the injuries and suspensions that Leeds United have acquired so far this season.

Suspensions to Gaetano Berardi and Kalvin Phillips in recent weeks have hampered Leeds’ consistency in team selection.

A handful of Leeds fans over by the bar here in the Transfer Tavern want to see Samuel Saiz converted back into a central attacking midfielder, with Christiansen often utilising him in a wide area.

Ian, a hardcore Leeds United fan over by the dartboard here in the Tavern, feels that Ezgjan Alioski needs to be dropped from the starting eleven, as he thinks the Macedonian international is way too inconsistent.

You do have to wonder why Alioski can excel and perform so well for his native country on the international scene, but when it comes to Leeds, he struggles to frequently exhibit acceptable displays.

Leeds have a number of issues that need to be resolved if they are to push for the top six, but if they can rekindle their early season form, they’ll be right up there.
