Liverpool: Fans react sarcastically to impending short-term deal for Andy Lonergan

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expecting 35-year-old goalkeeper Andy Lonergan to sign for the club on a short-term deal following the injury to Alisson in the Reds’ win over Norwich last Friday, as stated by the club’s official Twitter channel.

Klopp told LiverpoolFC.com that he expects Alisson to be sidelined for “the next few weeks” after picking up a calf injury against Norwich at Anfield.

Adrian, who replaced Alisson to make his club debut last Friday, is likely to be Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper in the Brazil international’s absence and, with Caoimhin Kelleher and Vitezslav Jaros also nursing injuries, Liverpool have been left short on goalkeeping cover.

Lonergan, a free agent after being released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season, has been training with the Reds in recent weeks and was part of the squad for their pre-season tour of USA, as reported by LiverpoolFC.com.

According to LiverpoolFC.com, Klopp is hoping to be able to name the veteran goalkeeper among the substitutes for the Champions League holders’ UEFA Super Cup meeting with Chelsea tomorrow night.
