Manchester United are considering a bid of over £100m to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, according to reports from The Independent.
Dembele, 22, arrived at the club in August 2017 for a fee potentially rising to £135.5m, as the fall-out from the world-record sale of Neymar saw Barcelona launch a sizeable bid for the Frenchman’s services.
Despite arriving in La Liga with a fearsome reputation, Dembele was unable to replicate the goalscoring output that the departing Neymar had vacated, and has since been unable to find a regular starting berth in the Catalan giants first-choice XI.
In the 2018/19 campaign, Dembele scored eight goals in 29 appearances as Ernesto Valverde’s side lifted the La Liga title – and they are favourites to do so again according to one of the best online gambling sites in the UK – but so far in the 2019/20 season the 22-year-old has made just two league appearances.
This sense of uncertainty around Dembele’s long-term future at the club could pave the way for Ed Woodward and Manchester United to launch a sizeable bid for the forward’s services, as question marks continue to linger over the long-term fitness of Anthony Martial.
If Dembele was to arrive at Old Trafford in January, he would provide attacking impetus to a United side who are seriously struggling in the 2019/20 campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, but whether the La Liga giants are willing to sanction the sale of their second most expensive acquisition remains to be seen ahead of the January transfer window.
