Norwich City are interested in signing Bayern Munich second-team star Kwasi Okyere Wriedt, according to Munich newspaper Abendzeitung (AZ) via The Eastern Daily Press.
According to the report, Norwich are not the only club interested in the youngster, with Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin also interested in him.
However, a move for the youngster could be complicated with the German champions Bayern Munich reportedly looking to keep Wriedt and offer him a new contract.
Wriedt came through the youth system at St Pauli and joined Bayern Munich from German side VFL Osnabruck in 2017.
The links with Wriedt make sense, after the departure of Nelson Oliveira having been confirmed last week. The Canaries could use the extra signing to fill that gap in the attacking areas, with Oliveira completing a free transfer to Greek side AEK Athens.
Wriedt has enjoyed three fine seasons at Bayern Munich, playing for the club’s second team. Wriedt has scored a mammoth 48 goals and assisted a further 16 in just 66 appearances for Bayern’s second team. However, the goals haven’t seen the Ghanaian break into the club’s first-team, as he’s only made two senior appearances.
Norwich have added Josip Drmic to the squad to compete with Teemu Pukki, however, with the challenge of the Premier League, they might need more options. This is where Wriedt would be the best option for Farke.
Let’s start with the best part surrounding Wriedt, and that’s his contract situation. The Ghana international has just one year left on his contract, and while Bayern want to extend it, they may be forced to cash in so they don’t lose the forward for free next summer.
The next part is the most crucial part for Norwich next season, and that’s the spread of goals. Last season Pukki finished with the most goals for the Championship table-toppers, scoring 29 out of the 93 goals, 31% of Norwich’s goals. As mentioned above, Wriedt’s goalscoring record in the last three seasons speaks for itself as he’s managed to notch up 48 goals in 66 games for Bayern’s second team, showing his potency in front of goal.
A seemingly cheap striker who is quite potent fits the bill for Norwich, and the Canaries need to get him snapped up ahead of next season.
