# Norwich City: Christoph Zimmermann coy over injury return in early December

**Norwich City defender Christoph Zimmermann is feeling coy over a return in early December after revealing he has made some ‘good progress’.**

The defender has been out since suffering a ligament injury in his right foot in the 2-0 defeat away to West Ham United in the Premier League in late August [(via The Pink Un)](https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/norwich-city-zimmermann-injury-update-1-6375096).

Zimmermann said: “I’ve made some good progress and it’s been better than expected and therefore we said that December should definitely be possible.” [(Source: Norwich via The Pink Un)](https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/norwich-city-zimmermann-injury-update-1-6375096)

An early return from injury could be just what the doctor ordered for manager Daniel Farke, as the German looks to revive their Premier League survival hopes. Norwich City sit rock-bottom of the league table with just seven points from their 12 games, having conceded the second-most goals of any team in the top flight [(via Premier League)](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/goals_conceded?se=274).

Zimmermann was a superb player for the Canaries last campaign, and his re-introduction to the first-team fold will add both numbers and quality to the backline at Carrow Road.

The German’s return would mean an actual central defender playing at centre-half. Defensive midfielders [Alexander Tettey](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alexander-tettey/leistungsdaten/spieler/12384) and [Ibrahim Amadou](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ibrahim-amadou/leistungsdaten/spieler/205503) have been filling in at centre-half for a number of games, showing just how stretched the squad has been this year.

26-year-old Zimmermann has an innate ability to snuff out danger, shown during their Championship promotion season where he made the second-most clearances per game of any player in the side. His height and power in the air also managed to make him a useful asset in defence as he won the fourth-most aerial duels in the squad [(via WhoScored)](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/168/Archive/England-Norwich).

Zimmermann’s early return can be a timely boost for Farke as the coach looks to repair some pretty heavy damage to the club’s hopes of staying up, with the Canaries having suffered [six defeats](https://uk.soccerway.com/teams/england/norwich-city-fc/677/matches/) out of their last seven league games.
