Prior to the game against Aston Villa, the Canaries had 10 first-team players out of action, including the first and second choice ‘keepers [(via BBC)](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49861473).

The 21-year-old isn’t the only player to have pulled out of a squad for a national team, with [Kenny McLean](https://twitter.com/NorwichCityFC/status/1182310653593292801) and [Jamal Lewis](https://twitter.com/NorwichCityFC/status/1181174373803331585) also doing so this week.

Cantwell has been in superb form for the Norfolk side this season, scoring two goals and assisting a further two in eight Premier League games [(via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/todd-cantwell/leistungsdaten/spieler/332341). The youngster scored in the 3-2 win over Manchester City earlier in the campaign.

After the game against the Villans, manager Daniel Farke bemoaned the injury problems, claiming it affected the result [(via Birmingham Mail)](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/they-were-not-prepared-norwich-17038882).

Fans were in shock over the news as they took to Twitter to react. Here is a selection of tweets from the Carrow Road faithful:
