# Nottingham Forest: Fans react as Chris Hughton eyes Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff

**According to a report by [the Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/revealed-key-factor-newcastles-january-19438711?_ga=2.197634156.294841540.1607857208-1101944859.1555934357), Nottingham Forest are part of a long line of Championship clubs who are interested in snapping up promising young Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff in January – prompting many supporters to react as this news emerges.**

Longstaff, who [burst on to the scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7ZdacwGSw0) with a wonder goal against Man United last season, is currently at the centre of reports linking him with a move to the Championship as he seeks valuable game time.

The [‘phenomenal’](https://nothingbutnewcastle.com/2019/10/blogs/transfer-news/sutton-raves-about-longstaff/) 20-year-old has been somewhat hampered by injuries this season which have resulted in Steve Bruce’s decision not to call upon the young Magpie, and a loan move to England’s second tier could be a viable option.

Manager Chris Hughton is reportedly eyeing the ace along with several other Championship clubs, with Forest fans having plenty to say and a mixed variety of opinions.
