# Nottingham Forest: Report provides Morgan Gibbs-White update

**[Nottingham Forest](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/nottingham-forest-news/) have reportedly held ‘talks’ regarding the signing of Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, report [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/08/03/inside-nottingham-forests-100m-survival-mission/).**

### The lowdown: Wanted man

Following a [stellar loan spell](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwDLegcDwhY&t=524s) at Sheffield United in 2021/22, Gibbs-White has attracted plenty of attention from a number of Premier League clubs.

Everton, Crystal Palace and indeed the Reds have all shown an [interest](https://theathletic.com/news/morgan-gibbs-white-everton-nottingham-forest-wolves/elQE3CJ4KP9A/) in landing the England Under 21 international, with Wolves seemingly [willing](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10985307/Wolves-willing-listen-offers-Morgan-Gibbs-White-midfielder-stalls-new-contract.html) to cash in on their 22-year-old academy graduate.

However, as of yet no transfer has materialised and the latest emerging claims have shed some further light on the current state of play from a Forest perspective…

### The latest: ‘Talks’ held

As per the [Telegraph’s report](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/08/03/inside-nottingham-forests-100m-survival-mission/), Nottingham Forest held ‘talks’ with Wolves last week about the [seven-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/morgan-gibbs-white/nationalmannschaft/spieler/429014/verein_id/9565) starlet as Dane Murphy oversees a £100million ‘survival mission’ to remain in the top flight.

It’s claimed that the two clubs were unable to reach an agreement on a fee for Gibbs-White, as the Molineux outfit look for bids in the region of £30million.

The report also states that along with the attacking midfielder who was [‘unreal’](https://twitter.com/EuroExpert_/status/1529536462550708224) last season – according to European football expert Alex Barker – Forest are also in the market for another frontman with Keinan Davis and Maxwel Cornet cited as possible options.

### The verdict: Tough call

Although signing Gibbs-White would have to be regarded as a welcome piece of business, shelling out anything close to the mooted asking price would shatter the current [record expenditure,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nottingham-forest/transferrekorde/verein/703) which stands at the £18.45million spent to bring Taiwo Awoniyi to the City Ground from Union Berlin.

Overall, the suggested fee would take the Forest spending this summer [beyond](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nottingham-forest/transfers/verein/703) the £100million mark, further proof of a willingness to back Steve Cooper in the quest to preserve Premier League status beyond 2022/23.

Capable of playing across numerous positions and therefore adding [supreme versatility](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/morgan-gibbs-white/leistungsdaten/spieler/429014) to the ranks, last season, Gibbs-White – who was [praised](https://theathletic.com/2112060/2020/10/16/gibbs-white-assists-wolves-swansea/) for his ‘productivity at the top end of the pitch’ by Cooper himself whilst on loan at Swansea – scored [12 times and provided nine assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/morgan-gibbs-white/leistungsdaten/spieler/429014/plus/0?saison=2021) in 39 appearances across all competitions.

Despite the required lofty outlay for a player with just [46 Premier League outings](https://www.premierleague.com/players/15259/Morgan-Gibbs-White/overview) under his belt, adding a player of the young Englishman’s ilk to the Forest ranks would be a superb coup for the newly promoted Reds and one that should be under serious consideration regardless of finances.
