Nottingham Forest are reportedly eyeing up a potential move in the January transfer window for Huddersfield Town defensive midfielder Etienne Camara.

The Lowdown: Premier League struggles

Steve Cooper's side have struggled at the bottom of the Premier League table all season, currently sitting in the relegation zone ahead of the return of domestic football after the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

This is despite them making a whopping 24 new signings in the summer, with some of the new arrivals clearly struggling to gel with each other.

The Latest: Camara interest

As per The Sun, Forest are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Camara in January. Brighton and Hove Albion are also eyeing his signature, but Leicester City are thought to be leading the race.

Camara has just signed a new contract at Huddersfield, but they could be willing to sell him for up to £10m, with a loan-back arrangement.

The Verdict: Smart move

It would certainly be a smart move by Forest to sign Camara, then loan him back to the Terriers for the rest of the season.

The City Ground outfit have enough cover at defensive midfield at the moment, but Cheikhou Kouyate and Jack Colback are not getting younger at 32 and 33 years of age respectively.

At just 19 years of age, Camara would add fresh legs in the middle of the park, should either or both Kouyate and Colback move on.

Hailed as being 'like a lion' with the 'eye of the tiger' by his manager Mark Fotheringham, he is thought of very highly, having played in 13 Championship games already this season.

In a worst-case scenario where the Reds get relegated, Camara could be a perfect player to come into the squad for next term.
