Football reporter for The Daily Telegraph, Mike McGrath, has cited an 'approach' for Nottingham Forest target Che Adams.

The lowdown: Reds' interested

Recently, a report from journalist Ryan Taylor claimed that the Reds are keen on acquiring Adams' services this summer as Steve Cooper attempts to suitably strengthen the City Ground ranks.

Premier League rivals Leeds United have also been credited with an interest in the 26-year-old Scotland international, although as things stand the £16.2million valued striker remains in situ at Southampton and has played a full part in pre-season.

However, that could be set to change in the near future as a fresh claim has emerged suggesting that one of the potential suitors have made the first move for Adams...

The latest: 'Approach'

Taking to Twitter, McGrath has claimed that an 'approach' has been made to the south coast club regarding the 19-cap ace.

He stated: “Southampton have received approach for Che Adams from a Premier League club. Interest in the Scotland striker from a number of teams. Nottingham Forest among those looking at him but there are others #SaintFC #Southampton #NFFC.”

It is not yet clear if the bid came from the City Ground.

The verdict: Hopefully...

Clearly, it remains to be seen whether or not this initial move came from Forest, although were that to be the case then it would be a wholly welcome venture from the Reds' hierarchy, coupled with the continued pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White.

Enjoying a rapid upwards career trajectory having come through the non-league system before earning a switch to Sheffield United in 2016, Adams has gone from strength to strength and has now established himself as a regular on the international scene with Scotland.

Last season, the powerful frontman - who was hailed as 'absolutely terrific' by journalist Josh Bunting during a 2-0 victory over Denmark last November - scored seven times and provided three assists in 30 Premier League outings, a particularly impressive output given Southampton's struggles moreover.

Capable of leading the line on a lone furrow and alongside a strike partner, Adams would seemingly have no problem pairing up with record signing Taiwo Awoniyi and his previous top-flight experience and proven ability to find the net at the elite level would make him a superb addition to Cooper's attacking options.
