Nottingham Forest: Cooper now leading race for Neco Williams

Nottingham Forest: Cooper now leading race for Neco Williams -Nottingham Forest News

Nottingham Forest are now in pole position to sign Liverpool defender Neco Williams this summer, according to a report from 90min

The lowdown: Hot property

A product of a flourishing academy system at Liverpool in recent years, Williams has come through the ranks on Merseyside and has already proven to possess an abundance of talent.

Loaned to Fulham for the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, the 21-year-old Welshman continued to impress and played an integral role in the Londoners’ charge towards the Championship title.

Now with opportunities likely to be scarce at Anfield, Southampton, Fulham and Forest have all been indexed with making a swoop to sign Williams this summer…

The latest: Forest in ‘pole’

As per 90min, Nottingham Forest are now believed to have usurped their rival suitors for the 21-cap Wales starlet.

It’s claimed that the Reds are ‘in pole position to sign’ Williams as Fulham turn their attentions to Wolfsburg right-back Kevin Mbabu.

The report also states that Steve Cooper is ‘looking to replace the likely Tottenham-bound’ Djed Spence, and the Liverpool youngster hailed as ‘fearless’ by The Times’ Henry Winter following a stellar goalscoring display against Belarus is the chosen target.

The verdict: Fingers crossed

Providing no rivals gazump the deal, completing the move for the talented Welshman would be a superb piece of business from the City Ground herarchy.

Capable of playing on either flank and even in more advanced positions, last season Williams earned an outstanding 7.24 Sofascore rating whilst making 1.6 clearances, completing 1.0 key passes and winning 6.0 duels per game in the Championship – a higher duel outcome than Spence, who managed 5.8 successful battles whilst on loan at Forest from Middlesbrough.

Already boasting an impressive trophy-laden career in spite of his tender years, the £7.2million valued right-back would arrive into Cooper’s squad with the top-level experience under his belt to perform from the outset as well as possessing all of the required attributes to thrive under his compatriot, who he knows from their time together at Liverpool.
