Former Premier League striker slammed Nottingham Forest pair Joe Worrall and Cyrus Christie following their 2-1 defeat against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.
Bent not impressed
Boro’s Britt Assombalonga and George Saville scored either side of half-time before Forest fired back in second-half stoppage time through Loic Mbe Soh. Forest’s miserable evening was capped off after Yuri Ribeiro was sent off after appearing to stamp on Saville.
But it was the first goal that was the main focus of attention. Both Worrall and Christie looked to be more concerned about the offside rather than marking Assombalonga in the penalty area.
Speaking with EFL on Quest, Bent was critical of both players over their involvement in Boro’s opener.
He said: “It was really poor and lazy defending from Joe Worrall and Cyrus Christie, just sticking their hand up and letting Assombalonga get in there.”
Transfer Tavern Verdict
Middlesbrough put an end to a strong run that Forest were on. In the manner it happened, it’s difficult to disagree with what Bent is saying here.
Both Worrall and Christie was clearly focusing on the linesman as they were caught out by the pass from Jonny Howson.
It’s a harsh lesson for the pair to learn and hopefully, for their sake, has not undone all of the hard work they have already put in this season.
