The lowdown: Career so far
Somewhat of a journeyman up to this point, the 26-year-old enjoyed loan spells at Swindon, Rotherham, Peterborough, Scunthorpe and Doncaster whilst on the books at Norwich City.
Having come through the academy in East Anglia, the attacking left-back signed for Milwall in January 2018 on a permanent basis before moving to Lincoln City the following summer.
The former England youth international has since gone from strength to strength and earned a move to Huddersfield, where he has made 99 outings to date.
The latest: Forest keen
It’s claimed that the Reds ‘rebuilding’ process ‘will see the newly promoted club bid’ for Toffolo as Steve Cooper seeks to reinforce the squad and add to the all-important wing-back positions.
The report added that the man hailed as a ‘machine’ by team-mate Naby Sarr after completing 113 consecutive league outings will be ‘offered the chance’ to challenge for the left-back position at the City Ground.
Would Tofolo be a good signing for Forest?
The verdict: Shrewd move
Albeit unproven in the top flight, as he is without a Premier League appearance, the workmanlike defender has certainly earned his stripes across a which that has seen him amass 269 professional outings so far.
Toffolo scored six times and provided eight assists in 48 appearances across all competitions last season, including a match-winning assist for Duane Holmes against Forest in a 1-0 victory for Huddersfield in the Midlands in December.
Predominantly operating as a more conventional left-back in his career, the ever-reliable ace can also play in a more advanced left-sided position, making him the perfect candidate for Cooper’s system which relies heavily on wing-backs.
Valued at £2.25m and committed to a recently-extended deal until 2023 (Transfermarkt), striking for Toffolo would certainly make plenty of sense as Forest look to strengthen whilst also being cautious of not spending beyond their means in their first year back amongst the elite since 1999.
