Nottingham Forest are plotting a late swoop to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks.

The Lowdown: Winks set to leave Spurs

The 26-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Antonio Conte and has even been told that he is free to leave N17 this summer.

Premier League sides Southampton, Leicester and Everton, alongside unnamed clubs in Italy and Spain, have all been credited with an interest, but attention now seems to be emerging from the City Ground, with Steve Cooper looking set to make a last-minute move.

The Latest: Forest considering move

According to the Evening Standard (via Nottingham Post), Forest and the Saints are the two sides who ‘could make a move in the final week of the transfer window’ for Winks.

It’s stated that despite interest from overseas, the player wants a move within the top-flight, with Spurs setting a £20m valuation, though this could ‘possibly reduce’ as deadline day grows closer.

The Verdict: Alongside Aurier?

Forest already look set to sign former Spurs man Serge Aurier, and his ex-teammate Winks would be a valuable addition to follow in his footsteps.

The Hemel Hempstead-born talent, hailed a ‘catalyst’ in midfield by sports journalist Josh Bunting, would provide Cooper with a more experienced, defensive option compared to the likes of Jesse Lingard, and is proven at this level, having clocked up 128 Premier League appearances.

Winks will be keen to make a fresh start after his recent lack of opportunities, and Cooper would more than be able to give him a new lease of life in the Midlands.
