Nottingham Forest are considering a late attempt to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo this summer, according to an exciting transfer update.

The Lowdown: Gakpo stars for PSV

The 23-year-old has stood out as one of the most exciting young Dutch players in recent years, catching the eye with his pace and trickery.

Gakpo has scored 46 goals and registered 39 assists in 143 appearances for PSV, as well as also chipping in with two strikes in seven caps for the Netherlands.

The Dutchman has been linked with numerous Premier League clubs this summer and it looks as though Forest are making a late effort to get their man.

The Latest: Forest eye up move

According to journalist Rik Elfrink on Twitter [via Sport Witness], Forest have attempted to sign Gakpo, only to see their initial offer laughed off by PSV.

It is stated that the €25m (£21.5m) bid from Evangelos Marinakis was 'absolutely rejected' and that the Eredivisie giants want €50million (£43m).

The Verdict: Could be a huge addition

Gakpo would be a statement signing from Forest, considering he has been tipped to join some of the Premier League's biggest clubs, but they will clearly have to up their offer significantly.

The Reds are at least boosted by the fact that PSV failed to reach the Champions League group stages after being knocked out by Rangers, so he may want a move away this summer.

Whether or not Forest stump up the cash for Gakpo remains to be seen but it further shows the ambition displayed throughout this transfer window, with the PSV hero hailed as a player who 'has everything' by former FC Twente midfielder Theo Janssen.
