Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for another Atalanta player, with right-back Hans Hateboer now thought to be on their transfer radar.

The Lowdown: Unforgettable summer at Forest

The summer transfer window has been a superb one for the Reds, with Steve Cooper building a completely new-look squad and signing a whopping 16 new players.

It should help Forest compete in the Premier League, with four points from their opening three matches suggesting that that will be the case under a new look squad.

Their spending may not be done just yet, however, with a new transfer rumour claiming another defender could be heading to the City Ground.

The Latest: Hateboer loan bid

According to TuttoMercatoWeb [via Sport Witness], Forest are interested in signing Hateboer and have made a loan offer for his services, having already signed Remo Freuler from Atalanta this summer.

The Serie A side taking 'a few days to decide' - they are looking at replacement options, though, which suggests the Reds could get their man.

A temporary deal would include a €8m (£6.7m) buy option to become activated if Forest stay up.

The Verdict: Strong competition for Williams

Hateboer hasn't always managed to be a regular for Atalanta, only starting 16 league games last season, but he is someone who could be a shrewd addition by Forest.

The 28-year-old could be a more experienced option than Neco Williams at right-back, coming and providing competition for the Welshman and allowing Cooper to rotate, perhaps even becoming a figure for the youngster to learn from.

Hateboer has won 13 caps for the Netherlands and made 151 appearances in Serie A, which highlights his pedigree, and his tally of ten goals and 19 assists for Atalanta is proof that he can bring attacking thrust to Forest's flank.
