Nottingham Forest's big move for £22.5m-valued Lyon superstar Houssem Aouar could fall through, according to a new transfer update.

The Lowdown: Aouar linked with Forest move

Steve Cooper must be delighted with his summer transfer business to date, having strengthened his squad enormously for the 2022/23 season.

Forest have even been strongly linked with an audacious move for Aouar to put the cherry on the cake, who has stood out as one of Lyon's most talented and influential players in recent years.

It now looks as though the move may not go ahead, however, following a fresh update.

The Latest: Move could fall through

According to Foot Mercato [via Sport Witness], talks between Forest and Lyon 'have come to a stop', with the move now possibly 'falling through'.

It is claimed that the Reds 'didn't appreciate' how the business was conducted by Lyon's director of football, Vincent Ponsot, having made two bids, only for the Ligue 1 club to change their demands.

The Verdict: Potential blow for Reds

While Forest look increasingly well-stocked after such a great summer, missing out on Aouar now would feel like a big blow, considering his pedigree as a player.

The 24-year-old Frenchman would be a sprinkling of creative genius on top of an already-strong squad, having scored 40 goals and registered 35 assists for Lyon and he's even been hailed as 'incredible' by Pep Guardiola.

There is still time to resurrect the move but it does feel as though Lyon are being difficult and it could end up being a transfer that is too much hassle to continue working on.
