Nottingham Forest are favourites to sign former Tottenham full-back Serge Aurier in a 'huge move', according to a fresh transfer rumour.

The Lowdown: Aurier a free agent

The Ivory Coast defender is currently a free agent, having left Villarreal earlier in the summer, and he is now on the lookout for a new club.

Aurier is perhaps best remembered for his four-year spell at Spurs between 2017 and 2021, which saw him make 110 appearances, including 77 in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old now appears to be firmly on Forest's radar as Steve Cooper looks to do yet more transfer business.

The Latest: Forest eye up Aurier move

According to RMC Sport [via Sport Witness], the Reds have 'made a huge move' for Aurier and are the 'most interesting club' in the race to sign him.

According to Foot Mercato , the 81-cap Ivory Coast international recently turned down an offer to sign for Nantes, as he favours a move to either Spain, England or Italy.

The Verdict: Proven top-level experience

Aurier is now a hugely experienced player at both club (350 appearances) and international level, having being hailed as 'amazing going forward' by former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

The Ivorian is someone who could provide competition for Neco Williams at right-back, coming in as a more experienced option, and his attack-minded nature makes him ideal for Cooper's style of play.

There may be some hesitation over a move for Aurier, given that his defensive expertise has been questioned at times over the years, while he has also been involved in trouble away from the pitch during his career.

However, when looking at the scale of his exposure to top-level football at national and continental level, the enigmatic Ivorian could be worth taking a punt upon, especially given his availability on a free transfer.
