Nottingham Forest: Reds looking at Steve Cooper replacements

Nottingham Forest: Reds looking at Steve Cooper replacements -Nottingham Forest News

Nottingham Forest are already sounding out potential high-profile replacements for manager Steve Cooper, should results not improve in the coming weeks.

The Lowdown: Cooper under pressure

The Welshman has transformed the club’s fortunes, taking charge a year ago when they were bottom of the Championship and guiding the Reds back into the Premier League.

Unfortunately, it has been a disappointing start to the season, with Forest sitting 19th in the table and suffering 3-2 home defeats to fellow promoted clubs Bournemouth and Fulham this month.

It means that, following a madcap transfer window which saw 22 new arrivals for a cumulative outlay of £152m, Cooper is now under pressure to keep his job, judging by some recent reports.

The Latest: Forest already looking to the future?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones claimed that Forest are already on the lookout for a possible replacement, should they decide to part with the 42-year-old in the coming weeks.

The transfer insider claimed:

“They would look to be ambitious and land the biggest name possible that fits with their vision. That process will already be tentatively underway.”

Which one of these kit manunfactuers have never produced Forest shirts?

The Verdict: Huge games upcoming

Results simply need to improve for Cooper if he is to keep his job, with the aforementioned defeats to Bournemouth and Fulham feeling particularly damaging, considering that those two were also promoted this year and that Forest led at home in both matches but ended up on the losing side.

In many ways, it seems ridiculous that the 42-year-old should be under such pressure, given the job he has done in the space of 12 months, but football is a ruthless business which waits for very few managers.

Indeed, one promotion-winning boss has already been jettisoned, with the Cherries axing Scott Parker just under a month ago.

Starting with next Monday’s trip to Leicester, Forest must find consistency and go up a gear, or else Cooper could find himself seeking new employment in the near future.
