Nottingham Forest have scheduled a medical for Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi ahead of his impending move to the City Ground, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Lodi's career so far

The 24-year-old moved to Spain from his native Brazil in 2019 after Diego Simeone’s side had a €25m (£21.2m) bid accepted for the defender.

Since his arrival in Madrid, the full-back has made 84 appearances in La Liga and has impressively featured 27 times in the Champions League, earning 15 caps for the Brazil national team.

He notably played 42 games in all competitions last season, outlining his standing as a regular presence for the then-La Liga title holders and a reliable player who is almost always available to feature.

The Latest: Forest medical for Lodi

After journalist Jacque Talbot revealed on Friday that Forest were closing in on a deal to bring Lodi to the City Ground, Romano has now shared an update on the proposed loan move, which will include a £25.5m purchase option.

Taking to Twitter, the reliable journalist claimed: “Renan Lodi to Nottingham Forest, here we go! Deal now fully agreed between all parties, personal terms too. It's done and sealed, medical scheduled and documents to be signed on Sunday. #NFFC

“Forest will pay €5m loan fee to Atletico Madrid - plus €30m buy option #Atleti”

The Verdict: Fantastic business

According to Romano, Atletico rejected a move for Lodi from Manchester City earlier in the summer.

With Pep Guardiola’s side on the hunt for an established left-back due to Oleksandr Zinchenko’s move to Arsenal and previous transfer target Marc Cucurella joining Chelsea, the news that the Brazil defender is set to sign for Forest will go down as a huge coup for the Reds.

Simeone even gave special praise to the 24-year-old in a post-match interview earlier this year, in which he said: “Lodi is a hard-working, humble player who deserves all the praise and support.”

Therefore, considering Lodi's credibility as a La Liga champion and a target for the Premier League title holders, this appears to be a fantastic signing for Steve Cooper and Forest, assuming there are no late hitches with the medical.
