Nottingham Forest should pip Aston Villa to sign Scott McKenna

Nottingham Forest should pip Aston Villa to sign Scott McKenna - Opinion

Nottingham Forest are still in with a chance of securing a play-off spot if they manage to ensure consistency from here on in until the end of the season.

The Midlands club didn’t do too badly under the guidance of Aitor Karanka, but Martin O’Neill’s arrival will have certainly lifted the whole club and supporters.

One of the Northern Irishman’s first steps will be to secure at least one signing for his new club, as this could prove to be the difference between promotion and another season in the Championship.

Forest managed to secure the services of Joe Lolley back in January of last year, and it’s safe to say that he has proved to be one of their best signings in recent years. He has managed to produce an impressive seven goals and eight assists in the current campaign, as one of the standout performers in the Championship.

Although, Forest could go one better if they manage to secure the services of a quality central defender this month.

Indeed, one man who is still attracting interest (as per the Daily Record) from Aston Villa is Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna. The young defender has made a name for himself over the past season or so as one of the most exciting defenders in the Scottish Premiership, with European experience already under his belt.

Nottingham Forest have suffered a number of defensive-based injuries in the current campaign, which has forced them into thinking about recalling Joe Worrall from Rangers in recent times. But, securing the services of McKenna would be sure to fix their issues and could provide them with a future star.

A partnership that either involves Danny Fox and McKenna or the Scottish international and Michael Dawson would be sure to put fans in dreamland.
