There's a lot of hype surrounding rising star James Garner as he continues to be linked to a loan move to the Championship.

The 19-year-old Manchester United starlet is reportedly very likely to be heading out on loan ahead of the upcoming season, with Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea both keen.

Manchester Evening News reporter Dominic Booth has given an insight into the player Garner is, including his opinion on the youngster.

Speaking to Dom Howson, Booth said: "He's a leader in the middle of the park, able to play as a deeper playmaker or higher up the pitch running box-to-box."

Garner is a defensive midfielder by trade but has enjoyed spells of utilising his pace and attacking flair further up the pitch. The 19-year-old has nine goals in 12 under-23 appearances this season and has featured six times for the senior squad (via Transfermarkt).

"What stands out is Garner's vision," Booth continued. "His ability to pick a pass, but in the past season he's added goals to his game.

"He's got a decent long shot, can take free-kicks and has even scored the odd headed goal too. He's becoming the complete midfielder."

Garner is held in very high regard already at Old Trafford and a loan spell could be exactly what he needs before returning to the Premier League to prove himself in the final test.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently said the young midfielder is seen as 'the next Michael Carrick', which are some huge boots to fill. However, with his proven scoring ability from the middle of the park, it shouldn't be long until Garner is putting in sublime performances for United.

Sheffield Wednesday will be in dire need of personnel once the transfer window opens, with 12 senior players set to leave as free agents and a further five coming to the end of their loan deals. Garry Monk will need to roll his sleeves and make some magic happen if he wants to safeguard his job and get the Owls fans on his side.

The perfect starting point could be Garner. An exciting young player who is eager to get minutes under his belt is exactly what Monk needs in his arsenal, especially without the huge transfer fee.
