# Leeds United: Pablo Hernandez steps up injury recovery

**Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has been handed a significant injury boost as [Pablo Hernandez](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/championship/leeds-united/leeds-united-fans-flock-to-championship-tweet-about-pablo-hernandez/)‘s recovery from a groin problem is making discernible progress.**

The [£1.08m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pablo-hernandez/leistungsdaten/spieler/46220)-valued playmaker proved to be a vital asset for the Yorkshire club last term as they sealed automatic promotion to the Premier League, contributing with [nine goals and nine assists in his 36 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pablo-hernandez/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/46220) in England’s second tier.

Indeed, The Athletic journalist Phil Hay championed him as “[unreal](https://sportslens.com/phil-hay-heaps-praise-on-pablo-hernandez-leeds-fans-respond/304240/)” after his last-gasp winner at former club Swansea towards the end of the promotion-winning campaign.

Featuring for the Whites in the opening Premier League game of the season, when they narrowly lost to Liverpool in a seven-goal thriller, Hernandez has [since been sidelined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pablo-hernandez/leistungsdaten/spieler/46220) with a groin problem.

### Hernandez back in training

Amid the international break, footage of Hernandez was shared via [LUTV](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEWEUAh9EC8&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=LeedsUnitedOfficial) showing the former Valencia man working out at Thorp Arch.

With Marcelo Bielsa [initially saying](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/raphinha-settles-in-hernandez-boost-19076117) that Hernandez would be ruled out for a couple of weeks after the injury he sustained against Fulham last month, it is now expected that he will be available for selection when domestic football returns next week.

While [new signing Raphinha](https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/raphinha-completes-deadline-day-switch-leeds-united-2993769) was largely the centre of attention, footage from the club showed Hernandez going through his paces as he steps up his injury recovery.

### Will Hernandez go straight back in to Leeds’ starting XI?

After Hernandez contributed so heavily to Leeds’ promotion, he may have been expected to play a large part in the Premier League this season.

However, a starting place may be difficult to come by over the next few weeks, especially with the excellent form of Mateusz Klich, who already has [two goals and an assist](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/19/Show/England-Leeds) to his name in 2020/21.

The[ever-meticulous Bielsa](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/bielsa-perfect-example-other-coaches-18057152) will no doubt have plans in place already for the Spaniard to be embedded back into the fold at Elland Road.
