# Manchester United: Journalist tips Mauricio Pochettino for manager’s job

**Mauricio Pochettino is the front-runner to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United manager, according to journalist Peter O’Rourke.**

### The Lowdown: United on the search for new manager

Solskjaer’s reign as United manager came to an end on Sunday morning following the 4-1 defeat away to Watford the previous day. The Norwegian had reached the point of no return after a run of just [one win in seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/spielplan/verein/985) Premier League matches, with a change being essential.

United are now on the lookout for a new manager and a [number of candidates](https://www.marca.com/en/football/manchester-united/2021/11/21/619a2676e2704ee07f8b45cb.html) are believed to be in the race to take charge at Old Trafford.

### The Latest: Journalist makes Pochettino managerial claim

One of those is [reportedly](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59372826) Pochettino, who is currently manager of Paris Saint-Germain but whose family remains in England.

Speaking to [GIVEMESPORT](https://www.givemesport.com/1789911-next-man-united-manager-49-yo-is-top-target-hes-finished-above-red-devils-3-times), O’Rourke talked up the chances of the Argentine taking over at United, saying it looks the most likely outcome:

> “All signs seem to point towards Pochettino being their top target right now. He’s been a long-term target for the United hierarchy in the past.”

### The Verdict: Right man for the job?

The main thing working against Pochettino is his lack of silverware, with the 49-year-old [only winning a French Cup and French Super Cup](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mauricio-pochettino/erfolge/trainer/9044) during his time as a manager. In five years at Tottenham, he failed to win any trophies, but he also turned Spurs into a formidable side who reached the 2019 Champions League final.

Pochettino plays an [attacking brand of football](https://onefootball.com/en/news/pochettino-my-psg-an-attacking-team-tuchels-chelsea-a-defensive-one-34100875), which is sure to appeal at United – he has [labelled](https://onefootball.com/en/news/pochettino-my-psg-an-attacking-team-tuchels-chelsea-a-defensive-one-34100875) Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel a ‘defensive’ coach – and he could perhaps get far more out of a hugely talented squad than Solskjaer, as was the case with players such as [Dele Alli](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dele-alli/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/207929/plus/0/verein/148/trainer_id/9044), [Son Heung-min](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/heung-min-son/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/91845/plus/0/verein/148/trainer_id/9044) and [Harry Kane](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-kane/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/132098/plus/0/verein/148/trainer_id/9044).

The pressure would clearly be on Pochettino to win trophies at Old Trafford, but he is still at an age where he is learning as a manager and he could be the man to bring back more successful times to the red half of Manchester.
