With the Premier League season just over a week away, Newcastle fans are plotting to use their opening game of the season against Arsenal as a platform for something bigger.
Plans to boycott the game at St. James’ Park have been slowly gathering momentum on social media, with the hashtag #BoycottArsenal building up pace on Twitter, and some supporters are planning on taking it one step further than just boycotting the opening game of the season.
The Chronicle Live report that a Newcastle fan coalition are encouraging supporters to boycott every game played at St. James’ Park this season, and The Magpie Channel from Fan TV will be joining in on said movement as is explained in the video below.
The departure of Rafa Benitez and subsequent appointment of Steve Bruce (per BBC Sport) soured the mood greatly around Newcastle and for their supporters, and although the club have since gone on to break their club-record transfer for a player on Joelinton from Hoffenheim for a reported £40m (per BBC Sport), fans are still discouraged by the direction owner Mike Ashley is taking the Toon.
Heading into the new season, a dark cloud is looming large over Newcastle, and although they have spent money this summer and managed to find a replacement for Benitez, fans are worried that the Tyneside club could be in for a difficult year in the Premier League.
Newcastle United fans, where will the club finish next season? Let us know!
