Charlton Athletic are gearing up for their League One play-off semi-final first leg clash at this moment in time, which has given fans time to reflect on who their standout performers have been.
The Addicks’ main man this season has been Lyle Taylor, who is valued at £270k (as per Transfermarkt).
Taylor has set League One alight this season, producing 24 goals and 11 assists up until this point. His performances this season have resulted in a Charlton fan labelling the Englishman as League One’s Lionel Messi.
Of course, comparing him to the Argentine is a bit extreme as they’re on completely different levels, but he certainly shares similar attributes. His ability to wriggle out of situations is definitely Messi-like and he poses a threat from free-kicks, which is one of the Barcelona man’s most dangerous weapons.
Not many other strikers have managed to keep up with Taylor in League One this season, so it’s fair to see he may just be Charlton and League One’s very own version of Messi.
Charlton fans, do you think Taylor is the closest player to Messi in your current squad? Join in with the discussion by commenting down below!
