Unai Emery’s time at Arsenal has already been a mixed one. Indeed, while there have been some promising signs as the club enter life after Arsene Wenger, a lot of the problems to have dogged the Frenchman during the latter stages of his tenure remain prevalent.
Perhaps no one player sums that up more so than Granit Xhaka. The Swiss midfielder, who has clearly shown enough in training to be constantly trusted (as bizarre as it seems) by both Wenger and Emery, is certainly a divisive figure amongst the Gunners faithful.
Supposed to be the man to restore steel into an Arsenal engine room completely lacking it for what seemed like an eternity, the former Borussia Mönchengladbach is often a liability in that role, ignoring defensive responsibility in order to push on in attacking areas.
While that’s all well and good when it works, the point seems to be, it doesn’t work often enough.
So, we recently asked our readers whether or not they regretted the club’s move for Xhaka back in the summer of 2016 and, as you can see by the results, an awful lot of them do.
In fact, 62% of those who voted regret the move altogether, barely surprising when you consider some of the abuse he gets on social media when Arsenal lose.
