**The West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern excited about their seismic move to the Olympic Stadium do still have tears in their eyes after leaving Upton Park.**

Clearly, the Hammers are one of the most upwardly mobile teams in the country and have so much to look forward to.

Still, any transition is a difficult and much of the feelings brought about during their stunning farewell to the Boleyn Ground have resurfaced.

That’s because, according to the [Daily Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/west-hams-james-tomkins-transfer-7998924?), one of the club’s tried and trusted is being linked with a move away.

While James Tomkins has never been a world beater, he’s proved to be a solid defender for the Irons after progressing through the youth ranks.

So, [reports](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/west-hams-james-tomkins-transfer-7998924?) that Crystal Palace and Sunderland are keen on him have left the fans propping up the bar tonight with a sour taste in their mouths.

Black Cats boss Sam Allardyce will know the 27-year old well, having worked with him during their time at Upton Park.

Able to operate at either right-back or in more central areas, the former England under-21 international is a solid option at Premier League level.

Palace are also [believed](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/west-hams-james-tomkins-transfer-7998924?) to be keen on a potential deal to bring him south of the capital as they look to add reinforcements for next season.

**West Ham fans, should Tomkins be kept on another year at least?**
