Portsmouth have announced that Lee Brown has signed a new deal which will keep him at the club until 2022.
With the 2019/20 season ending in disappointment for Pompey, boss Kenny Jackett will undoubtedly feel the pressure as the summer transfer window develops.
After a second consecutive failure to secure promotion, Portsmouth will be keen to push for an automatic place next year and Jackett has begun his transfer dealings with a double announcement.
Sean Raggett, who was on loan last season at Fratton Park, left Norwich City at the end of June and has now penned a two-year deal at the club, whilst Brown, who had seen his contract expire, has now extended his deal.
Speaking to the club’s official website after his deal was announced, the 29-year-old midfielder revealed his delight at remaining with the club.
“I’m over the moon to get the deal over the line and am looking forward to the new season.
“It’s come around so quickly and everyone’s ready to go again with some serious intent to get promoted.
“It was obviously disappointing to lose on penalties in the play-offs, but it helps to have a few weeks off to refresh.
“Now everyone is raring to go again and we’ll be working extremely hard to bring success to the club.
“Last season was a frustrating one for me because of injuries. I’ve never really experienced that before, so now I’m determined to kick on.
“We’ll obviously miss the fans being there, especially with the atmosphere they create at Fratton Park.
“But we’re still in the middle of a global pandemic, so it’s something we have to deal with and hopefully they’ll be back sooner rather than later.”
Left-back Brown, who is valued at £116,000, made a total of 16 appearances in League One last season, scoring one goal in the process.
Not a bad start for Kenny Jackett in the transfer window as he looks to develop his side ahead of next season.
Brown, like Raggett, will offer plenty of experience but Jackett will also need to look to bring in some youthful and energetic options next season to balance his squad out.
