Portsmouth assistant manager Joe Gallen has said that he expects a young Premier League player to arrive on loan this summer.
Very little transfer movement has developed at Pompey this summer with defender Sean Raggett being the only arrival for Kenny Jackett’s side to welcome.
Failure to win promotion from League One to the Championship for a second successive season has put pressure on Jackett’s shoulders ahead of the new season and fans will undoubtedly be growing concerned after little transfer activity.
Gallen, who is assistant at Fratton Park, has now opened up about the potential of a loan move which could include a Premier League youngster.
Speaking about the potential of a new signing coming in to Portsmouth, Gallen said: “We understand the fans want new faces – and I think we’ll have them here by October.
“But if you were to ask me when, I don’t know.
“There could be the chance to get someone who’s a brilliant youngster from one of the big clubs.
“I think it could open up later in terms of under-21s from the big academies for us.”
One potential player who could arrive at Pompey is Leeds United youngster Leif Davis, who has previously been linked with the club.
Leeds United academy product Davis has made 10 first team appearances for the Elland Road side with five of those appearances coming last season and interest in his services continues.
It has been a poor summer at Portsmouth so far with just Raggett being signed by the club. Kenny Jackett needs to ensure more players arrive but little movement is happening and fans will be extremely concerned about what is happening at the former Premier League club.
