Portsmouth are reported to have joined Ipswich Town with interest in Liverpool academy graduate Ben Woodburn.
Pompey boss Kenny Jackett has a big summer ahead of him after failing for a second successive season to gain promotion from League One to the Championship.
Losing to Oxford United in the play-off semi-final stage, Jackett must look to bolster his squad options and build a squad capable of gaining automatic promotion from England’s third tier.
One player has already arrived at Fratton Park to add depth to the club’s defence with Sean Raggett agreeing a permanent move and links to Woodburn, who could become a second arrival have now emerged.
The 20-year-old is fully expected to leave Anfield on loan this summer after Jurgen Klopp made a decision over his short term future, following a spell with Oxford during the 2019/20 campaign.
Appearing 16 times for Portsmouth’s League One play-off opponents, Woodburn suffered a fractured foot during the season but he still managed to score one goal and gain five assists (Transfermarkt).
This would be a good addition to Kenny Jackett’s side, especially if Woodburn can remain fit and in good shape. Indeed, as already mentioned, he managed to chip in with six goal involvements last season with the U’s despite only featuring 16 times.
The youngster will be keen to impress next season whoever he plays for and that desire could go hand in hand with a potential promotion push for Pompey.
